2009 Fantasy Football Sleepers

The following players are ones I will be targeting as potential semi-studs that can be had later in drafts. Finding the value in your draft picks can turn your team from decent to dominant. It’s no coincidence that many championship-caliber teams last season had players like Matt Forte, Roddy White, and Steve Slaton.

Chris Wells, RB, Arizona – I was always more impressed watching him than Knowshon Moreno

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina – I’ll admit, I’m a J.Stew fan-boy. Insane combo of size and speed. I’d actually rather take him in the 5th or 6th than DeAngelo Williams in the 1st.  With his lack of preseason playing time, he can now be had even later. A risk?  Certainly, but enormous upside.

Shonn Greene, RB, NY Jets – Could be a beast in the Jets run-first, smash-mouth offense if given enough carries (which is the “if”). Especially useful in the red-zone. Another gem you could get relatively late.

Donnie Avery, WR, St. Louis – Showed flashes in his rookie year. With Holt now in Jacksonville, he’ll have to take the next step. Definitely has the talent, and you can snag him dirt cheap.

Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seattle- Almost seems like a forgotten man in many people’s minds due to his injury-plagued 2008. Has looked razor-sharp in the preseason, displaying a nice rapport with new weapon TJ Houshmandzadeh. Potential top 7 or 8 QB that can be had for a song.
